Home~Sweet~Home

Hello from our home in Winnipeg! We are both so happy and blessed to have arrived safely :)

In this blog I will fill you in on what happened since I last blogged on Saturday night...

The taxi arrived at 4:00 am at our hotel and we then headed to the Dusseldorf airport. The airport was flooded with people; it was really quite hectic. Both us and our friend (another patient who left on the same flight as we did) were just so thankful for being able to have wheelchair assistance! Having that option means the airport staff are responsible for getting you from check-in to your flight in every airport! Such a weight off my shoulders; all I had to do is keep track of the carry-ons and keep up with the different assistants who whip you through the airports. These airports are like mazes when trying to get from one gate to another! With their help and God's provision we never missed a flight and were almost always boarded first and were longtime settled in our seats before the flight took off!

We took off from Dusseldorf at 7:00am and landed about an hour later in London's giant Heathrow airport! By this point Mom was already very tired and having trouble getting comfortable. She was very much looking forward to the flight over the ocean where she could fully recline and get some sleep :)

At Heathrow we sadly had to part company with our good friend as he continued home on a different flight.

God was so good to us on this trip, as you already know, by gifting us with such a great group of friends! It really made this difficult journey that much sweeter :) We were able to exchange contact information with the group and plan to keep in touch. I am so looking forward to hearing how a more active life will hopefully be restored to these individuals. To see the hope that this surgery can bring to people who have lost jobs, been housebound, had to give up so much due to pain, is such a blessing! God is so good to allow a second chance to these individuals; may this time in their lives always remind them of His faithfulness <3

We were so blessed to be able to fly business class and a big thank you again to all who helped to make that possible :)

Having that fully reclining seat was something that made this trip more doable for Mom and many of the other ONZ patients. It was also a blessing for me as I could rest easy knowing that when we needed to do the long haul over the ocean she would be able to lie down and even sleep.

The closer we got to Winnipeg the more Mom got excited!! These photos are from the Toronto airport as we waited for the plane to depart for Winnipeg.

We were actually able to kill time in the business lounge with cappuccinos in between the flights!

The flight between Toronto and Winnipeg felt like it took forever, but then we were there! In the airport right back where we had started this whole adventure almost a month ago!

It was an emotional reunion and such a relief to be home and to have the surgery and rehab behind us. Now it was time to rest and to slowly get back into life here at home!

Dad had purchased a walker for Mom and brought it to the airport. She hopes to use it as little as possible and it will mainly be used for excursions outside the house. We look forward to the day we can sell both the walker and cane and she will be able to confidently walk with out them!

Another fun fact is that we managed to get through all the airport security checks with all of these fresh baked goodies and cheese! Though it is totally legal, I had my doubts that it would make it. I could just see us showing up in Toronto managing to have gotten it through Dusseldorf and London's airports just to have them confiscated and thrown out in Toronto!

It's a little worse for wear but it is being thoroughly enjoyed!

As you can see Mom was able to ride home in the front seat with Dad!! I really don't know how long it's been since I've seen them up there together. Such a sweet blessing already at this early stage of Mom's recovery!

And then just yesterday Mom and Dad went for their first walk together!! It was so sweet :)

Murray has been so thrilled to have Mom home. Lol he has been so stressed out having us gone that now he's so sleepy and quite happy to be put on Mom's bed and cuddle for hours!

Well that pretty much brings us to today. We are slowly getting back into the swing of things over here; just have to wait for the jet lag to wear off :P

I will occasionally send out blog updates as the weeks and months go on in Mom's recovery. Thank you for your prayers and support and I look forward to keeping you updated to her progress!

Wow, what a journey this has been! God is good <3
