Counting Our Blessings

Good evening all!

Well it’s been 24 days since we landed back in Winnipeg and we are still quite happy to be home <3

The last, almost month, has been more laid back and focused on recuperation and getting back into the flow of life here at home. This month has also consisted of discovering the new things Mom is able to do again!

She can now sit upright much longer at the table and visiting with friends on the couch. Now she doesn’t always need to fully lie down to take a break! Mom has enjoyed getting back to a few of the lighter tasks around the house she couldn’t do before she left. It has been a tricky challenge for me to let her experiment as she slowly gets back to her old life. Being a care giver is harder than it looks lol! On the other hand I am so happy to see her enjoying life more and more and not being hindered by pain so much. What a blessing we have been given!

She had her first doctor’s appointment on July 20th. The appointment ended up being difficult because Mom’s doctor turned out not being very pleased with her having gone for surgery in Germany (though she seemed to be ok with it before we left…). So to make a long story short we were blessed to be accepted by a new doctor who is a family friend and is working closely with Mom as they create a new game plan as she continues in this recovery process. What a blessing to see God’s gracious hand provide what we need! I feel like not only God’s finger prints are all over this journey but His full hand prints…..what a humbling and awe inspiring thought that is :)

Over this long weekend Mom was able to go for a girl’s afternoon of shopping! On Monday she spent the day with Dad going for a walk at Bird’s Hill Provincial Park and then out for ice cream. Wow, I really can’t believe I’m typing this…Mom went to Bird’s Hill Park for a walk!! This is awesome!! It’s such a blessing to see the joy that it brings her. The simple pleasures of ridding in a car upright or going for a walk make her just about squeal with delight lol.

For all our friends at GBC who I am sure are waiting with anticipation for her return to church after her 1.75 year absence, your wait is almost over! The plans for her to come back seem to be a thing of the very near future. All things going well it looks like she’ll attempt a Sunday back at church any weekend now!!

We have a few things we’d so appreciate you upholding in prayer for us:

-Mom is still having bouts of serious nerve pain and swelling down both her legs. Though the nerve pain is normal with this surgery, prayer for working through it, I’m sure would be very much appreciated!

Left: Painful evening with stretching nerves :(

Right: Mom hanging out with her faithful nurse

(you can just spot the tops of her compression stocking in this shot.)

-Prayer for Mom’s medical files (in Germany) to be released to our doctor here would be great. Without that information the physiotherapist and osteopath understandably don’t feel very comfortable working with her. So for now that important aspect of her recovery is on hold.

-Most of all, join us in praising the Lord for His faithfulness in hearing and answering. His sovereign plan played out so much better then we could have ever orchestrated!

Thank you again for your prayers and support in this! I hope this blog fills you in and helps answer any questions as to how Mom is progressing. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to email!

Have a blessed week!
